WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

Workshop 1 – Collaborative Art – Community Fusion

Janice Tanton

Learn more about yourself and communicate with others and the world around you through a “jam session for all the senses of the human being.”

Collaborative, inter-disciplinary, inter-generational and loads of excitement.

All ages (any age – children under the age 12 must be accompanied by a participant adult)

Workshop 2 – Life Tiles

Make your own Life Tile. Utilizing elements of nature create your own tile to take home.  Observe the small thing in nature like rocks, grass and seeds and bring them together in a creative immediate way using clay and plaster.  The tile can be coloured , stained or painted — its your choice!

Workshop 3 – Papermaking

Learn techniques to recycle used paper into beautiful new sheets that can be used for card making, scrapbooking, wrapping paper, book making etc. We’ll add colour, character and texture to the pulp using decorateive items such as thread, fabric scraps, twine, confetti, leaves, sparkles and more. Participants can bring some of these items from home to personailize the sheets that they will make.

A little messy and wet …. this workshop is for all ages. (15 students) 2 hrs

Workshop 4 – Encaustic

Deborrah Hughes – Gahr

Class will be fast paced. Students will apply acrylic background on canvas panels. Through demonstration and samples students will “build” an abstract piece using bristle brushes to apply layers of melted wax to dry acrylic surface – learning about composition and contrast. Students will learn how to manipulate wax using various items such as the encaustic iron and electric stylists, as well as nails, forks. Time allowing large deocorative beads, feathers and/or shells will be attached to the wax art to finish off the work.

Adult only (6 students) 1 ½ hrs

Workshop 5 – Who am I? – Collage Edward Van Vliet


Using figure templates provided by the artist, explore who you are using mixed media to represent your ideas, thoughts and feelings.  Express yourself with colour using watercolour or drawing materials, or caputre your thoughts and ideas with collage.  Create one, two, three or more piecesto represent the many different ways you see yourself and the different emotions you feel.

Any age.

Workshop 6 – Origami

Beyond Paper Planes and Cranes

The art of paper folding offers endless possibilities far beyond the familiar paper airplanes and Japanese paper cranes. This workshop will introduce you to the techniques of origami from a different perspective. Models to be folded are clever and challenging but the results will be rewarding. It’s like doing math without knowing it!

Ages 10 and up. 2 hrs (10 students)
